Decorating for a Rustic Christmas

Becoming a more popular theme each year, the Rustic style allows you to truly get creative with nature-inspired materials and colour schemes. Turn your home into the snow-surrounded log cabin you’ve always dreamed of with these tartan and twine-filled tips…and take a look at the inspiring videos on our Youtube channel for more winter woodland ideas.

The Tree

If you’re choosing an artificial Christmas tree over a natural one this year, it’s important to get one with green tips for that authentic appearance. When it comes to decorating - if you can find it in the woods in winter then chances are it’ll look fab on your tree. If your tree didn’t already come with pinecones, they’re a favourite go-to for instant rural appeal. Perch them on the branches or hang them like baubles to accent your chosen aesthetic. Skip the sparkly tinsel and opt for lengths of jute, tying it all together with some warm white LEDs.

Dining Table

Starting with the basics, wooden dining room furniture provides the perfect surface for laying out your rustic spread. If you don’t have a table with an authentic grain, you can always achieve a country appearance with a check tablecloth which will also protect it from spillages and stains. Next, the centrepiece – think wreaths, pinecones, and the magic combination of plaid and jute. It sets the tone for the rest of the table so it needs to look natural. Invest in some woodland-inspired candle holders to display tea lights and fairy lights in, or you can try hand-crafting your own with clear mason jars, ribbon, and charming adornments. Log circles make ideal placemats, providing a rough bark aspect as well as enhancing the attractive, unrefined vibe that you’re going for.

Living Room

If you wander through the woods and see some bright blue lights, it’s either the sought-after and frosty aurora borealis or the aliens are back. They’re great if you’re going for a winter wonderland or vintage collection, but they’ll throw off the atmosphere that any cosy cabin décor creates. Try to keep your light features in a softer warm white to simulate a more natural glow like fireflies.

Find the perfect balance of faux fur, plaid detailing, and cute ornamental creatures. Wood carvings and creations, along with dry grass figures, add the natural earthy tones that any rustic room needs while bringing charming character to your space.

Gift Wrapping

Kraft paper! Kraft paper! Kraft paper! A more unique, versatile, and environmentally friendly way to wrap your presents, kraft paper has an earthy brown colour with a raw, vintage beauty. You can leave it bare, tie up with a twine bow, or decorate with seasonal stamps. What makes it even better is that you can wrap presents for other occasions with any leftovers throughout the year!
