Halloween trends come in thick and fast every year, and 2026 is going to be no different. Alongside the usual pumpkins, skeletons and cobwebs (we could never forget about those), we're also seeing our shoppers turn to more nostalgic decorations, oversized garden displays and softer takes on the scariest season of them all.
But aside from a good spook, there's also plenty of room for a bit of fun. Ghosts, unusual characters and collectable-inspired decorations are changing the Halloween status quo, while classic decorations are still going strong for anyone who prefers some tradition in their celebrations.
So, what should you look out for this year? We've picked out four Halloween trends that are set to make an appearance in homes and gardens this spooky season.
They say the classics never go out of style, and that’s certainly the case when it comes to Halloween decor. Think grinning pumpkins, black cats, classic witches and bony skeletons. It's the Halloween you’ll remember from your childhood, and it's making a comeback in 2026.
The great thing about this style is that you don't need to plan your entire display around a particular theme. A few classic pieces around the front door can make a house feel ready for the day (and night, for that matter) ahead, then you can add to it with pumpkins, hanging decorations and lights.
Mixing new and old - a traditional pumpkin next to a newer inflatable, for example - is also set to be a popular look this year. The mix of traditional and modern stops everything from looking too coordinated and gives you a bit more freedom when you're choosing out decorations.
For something simple, start outside with a wreath or a few pumpkins, then bring the same look indoors with smaller decorations. Halloween home decorations can be used on shelves, mantelpieces and side tables, while Halloween hanging decorations are an easy way to fill an empty corner or doorway.
And if you want your display to keep shining after sunset, a few Halloween lights can make those classic decorations stand out in the October evening.
Where’s the fun in going understated? Oversized inflatables and animated decorations are becoming a bigger part of Halloween displays, with giant skeletons, witches, pumpkins and other characters taking over front gardens across the country. This is one for all of the maximalists out there!
Here at The Range, we have a big choice of inflatable and animated Halloween decorations, including large inflatables and moving or motion-activated characters which are sure to give trick-or-treaters a fright.
You don't need to fill the whole garden, either. One large decoration can be more than enough. Put it near the front door or along the path, then add smaller pumpkins, skeletons and other decorations around it.
If you've got the space, you can build the display out towards the garden rather than keeping everything around the front door. Just leave enough room for people to walk past without having to squeeze between the skeletons - no one wants that!
You’ve probably seen this one all over your social feeds. Ghostcore takes one of Halloween's most recognisable characters and gives it an otherworldly eeriness.
The look centres around ghosts, pale colours, glowing lights and decorations that would look right at home in an old, secret castle. It's a good option if you want your home to feel on-brand for Halloween - without going for the usual monsters and spiders.
There are plenty of ways to make this trend work for your home. A small ghost ornament can sit on a shelf, while ghost-shaped lights can wrap around a window, on a mantelpiece or in a bedroom. Our ghost decorations include everything from light-up ghosts to cute smaller pieces, so there’s plenty to choose from.
Ghosts are also a big hit when it comes to Halloween soft furnishings. A Halloween throw or cushion can add a seasonal touch to the sofa without making the room feel completely different for the rest of the year.
You can also mix ghostcore with more traditional decorations. Try a few white ghost decorations alongside orange pumpkins, or add ghost lights to a classic Halloween display.
Strange-looking creatures have always been a Halloween staple, and the viral Labubus certainly tick that box. These cute-creepy characters are showing up alongside the classics, helped along by the popularity of soft toy collectables.
If you’re looking for even more character-led decor to add to your home, take a look at our Halloween character decorations - it’s got a bit of everything, so there's plenty to choose from if you want something a bit different.
Brighter colours and more unique designs sit really well next to the classic Halloween pieces, and they won't make the display look like it belongs to a different celebration.
And if you already collect character toys, or your bedroom is built around a favourite character, Halloween is a good excuse to bring them into the seasonal setup.
The nice thing about these trends is that they don't need to be treated as four separate themes - we actually think that mixing them is where things get interesting.
A classic Halloween setup with pumpkins and witches can have a giant inflatable as its centrepiece. Add some ghost lights around the doorway and all of a sudden you’ve hit all of the year’s biggest trends in one fell swoop.
The same goes indoors. A few traditional decorations can be mixed with ghost-themed soft furnishings and character pieces to give rooms a more playful feel.
There's no single right look this year. Stick with pumpkins and cobwebs if that's what Halloween means to you, or go big with an inflatable on the lawn, or keep it soft and spooky with pale ghosts and candles. Your kids’ collectable favourites will work equally well next to that classic carved pumpkin too.
Whatever you land on, you'll find it in our Halloween collection, with everything from decorations and lighting to party bits for the big night. Happy Halloween!
Halloween decorating in 2026 is taking inspiration from a few different directions. Retro Halloween decorations are bringing back classic pumpkins, witches and ghosts, while oversized inflatables and animated decorations are making front gardens more dramatic. Ghostcore is bringing in an otherworldly aesthetic, and cute-creepy character decorations, like Labubus, are adding something a little different to traditional spooky displays.
Large inflatables, animated characters, giant skeletons, pumpkins and witches are popular choices for Halloween gardens. An oversized decoration can work well as a focal point, with smaller pumpkins, hanging decorations and outdoor lights added around it to build a bigger display.
Smaller ornaments, hanging decorations, wreaths, cushions and Halloween lights are useful when space is limited. They can be placed on shelves, windows, doors and other small areas without taking up the floor space needed for larger decorations.
