The Aqua Valve allows waste materials to pass into the filter but prevents them from dumping back into the aquarium. Therefore unlike almost every filter on the market the PF Filter range allows you to simply turn the filter off and remove the body for cleaning without seeing all the removed waste drop back into your aquarium.
